Cyber Cafe Business in Nigeria - Take Advantage of MTN HyNet Service Plans to Start a Mini Cyber Cafe

In this article, I will focus on MTN Hynet as a study case to explain how to start Mini Cyber Cafe using simplified internet subscription packages. However, other networks may have similar packages, you'll need to find out if your network of choice have similar package to go with. Otherwise, you'll have to settle with MTN Hynet.

According to Google, over 45million Nigerians currently have access to the internet. These 45million people which may include you and I accesses the internet through 3 means; our personal Laptops and PC, mobile devices, and through cyber cafe (public computers). Browsing has become almost daily routine for everyone us, either for business purpose, entertainment, or research and education.

Hundreds of millions of hours are spent daily by those who have personal devices for accessing the internet, and another hundreds of millions of hours in Cyber Cafe by those who doesn't have their own Laptop and internet connection.

Until now, running a cyber cafe has been a huge capital intensive business. You'll need to invest in heavy broadband, buy huge infrastructure like V-Sat, do computer networking, and server administration; before you'd talk of paying for the bandwidth which runs into tens of thousands of Naira. At the end, what you'll get will be nothing more than epileptic services.

With MTN Hynet and Starcomms Izap, you'll enjoy unlimited downloads and faster services which is exactly what cyber cafe business is all about, and you can connect to a maximum of 5 computers to come up with a mini cyber cafe. As long as you're within the area covered by MTN 3G, you are good to have your own mini cyber cafe.

Now is the time to be in business of your own, that's what we are trying to achieve on this website, to help as many Nigerians as possible to start a business of their own. This mini cyber cafe is one viable business any serious person must think about seriously. If you're ready to get started, here are steps you'll need to take to start your cafe business.

1. Get an Empty Shop -

Look for a small affordable shop within where you live or anywhere you can find it, let it be possibly in a busy place but not necessarily very busy place because it seems everyone is browsing the internet these days, as long as people are living there, you are ok.

Depending on where you get the shop, the average rate is N1,500 - N6,000 per month. In some parts of Lagos, the price could be as high as N9,000 to N12,000 per month. Go for the cheaper ones, they are everywhere. You will need to pay for one year (1500 x 12 = N18,000) and some other charges like the popular agreement fee. Just budget around N30,000 to N100,000 for the shop, you may not spend all.

2. Furnish Your Shop -

You'll need furniture equipment (Tables and Chairs), Put AC if you can afford it (a tokunbo split unit is about N30,000, you can get cheaper wall AC) if not, just buy ceiling fans or standing fans for N4,000 each.

Paint your shop if it's not yet painted and make sure it looks very nice, branding is everything in business as that will help you attract more customers and stay ahead of your competitors. Put TV in your shop too, for your customers entertainment. Generator is a must, except if Nigeria's power supply changes for better tomorrow but for now, you must get a generator (N23,000) if you hope to be in business.

3. Source For Desk Top Computers -

You can get them in any quantity you want at The Computer Village in Ikeja, Lagos. But if you're not in Lagos, then look for it in any hardware market near you. Don't get any scrap and call it computer, go for fairly used CPU with higher memories and processing speed.

Don't buy those old big outdated N1,000 Computer Monitors! Get Flat screen monitors with good image display, they aren't more than N7,000 each and your customers will definitely like it.

4. Grab Your MTN Hynet -

With the unlimited download and the high speed connectivity, the MTN Hynet is ideal to the type of business we are looking at. Take a look at the description below:

The pricing is very competitive with varieties of subscription packages, chose the package and hardware type that suits you most, below are the packages and the subscription prices:

You don't need much after these, all you need now is to put your equipment together and start your business. You can network your MTN Hynet to the maximum of five devices. If you charge your customers N100 per hour and all your computers are occupied, you'll be making N500 per hour. Multiply that by how many hours each worked, you'll have something like this: N500 X 12 =  N6,000 daily from your modest investment!

In a month, you'll be making N6,000 x 26 = N156,000. Assuming all days are not the same, you be making at least N100,000 Monthly. Isn't that a worth while investment? Don't be selfish, Tell others about WealthResult.com and let every Nigerians be in business this year.

  4. My brother, thank you so much for your post on settling up a mini cybercafe with MTN hynet. Im planning settling up a cafe in my school area in Ondo State but the hynet service is not available there. i was at MTN office and someone adviced that I buy their MTN mifi device that it can connect with 3G network and work on 5 devices but I dont really know whether this will be a good option. I also learnt that mtn modem with 3G network can also be shared among 5 systems with the help of router. Kindly advice me on this.
    Regards
    Olawale

  5. If you use ordinary modem which i don't think can connect more than one computer, if it does - the speed will be very poor. Hynet is my ultimate recommendation (because you can choose your speed), you may try the MTN mifi device.

  6. MTN Hynet is not available in my area. Which other services provide unlimited mobile broadband? And what about the cyber cafe timer software to use?

  7. Okay. I just got done reading your post. And you wanna know something? You're kinda way off with the profit. Before starting a business like this is Nigeria, there's one major factor you gotta consider. ELECTRICITY. You didn't talk of electricity bills. Plus this country doesn't have a stable supply of electricity. So if I'm gonna start this business, I'm looking to make a very low profit or a loss.

I mean calculate the price of fuel along with electricity bills and subtract it from your profit. Oh and also add the cost of servicing your generating set and your computers and then subtract it from your expected profit. In other words your actual profit wouldn't be much. I should know this, I'm a Finance student.

I admire the fact that you're trying to put something out for youth, but this business might not get anywhere. And don't even talk about charging high prices. Nigerians hate that.

  8. Well my dear, it may interest you to know that we don't pay electricity bill everyday, we pay it once in a month and it can't be more than N2,000 for a Cyber Cafe. Moreover, N500 fuel will take you 24hr non stop assuming there is no NEPA Light at all.

  10. I really like this forum, infact this was the reasons why i have decided to search this forum, because i believe someone will be out there to give me advice, Actually am into Multi media service, and i build websites, graphic designs, Bulksms service, Cartoon development, But sometimes in my office, people do come to my office thinking that its a cyber cafe and they want to broswe, after much consideration, i decided to have the plan of given it a trail, I have almost 5 systems, and well furnished office, But i also have mtn fast link and also Visafone cdxm modern, which i normally use to broswe on my own, But now i am thinking of including cybercafe, BUt my problem is, if some organization sees that i have not added cybercafe, won't they come to disturb me to join that organization therefore making me to spend more money for registration? another thing is when i went to lagos to get all my office equipment, some cafe i saw were using Starcomms, I don't really know if starcomms, is more better than Mtn, although i am not talking of speed oooo, But i am talking of stable network, Sometimes, when its raining heavily, MTN, always fall down, but you see starcomms, visa, the one i know, still broswing normal.... PLease i need advice, on how i could go about it, and i need good network with affordable price, because i will only want to use like 3systems for internet and sometimes for work if no customers come for broswing.... Please give me advice

  11. I don't think there is any organization you'll have to belong to before you start your cafe.

Besides, there is always freedom of association, you accept or reject

  12. The problem with setting up a mini cyber cafe is that the business is very risky. Technology evolves very fast and these days most people prefer to do their internet stuff from their smart phones!

  13. I think I have to fault u here, your business analysis is very poort. You have not put other expenses into consideration which can greatly hamper your profit margin i.e. cost of rent, running your generator, what of purchasing all those desktops.

Moreover, you will be lucky to have 3 systems occupied at all times of the day making it difficult to acheive your 6,000 daily income.

The reason why most businesses fail is this. They dont calculate in realistic terms what they can actually make off the business they are going into.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If you have a better analysis my brother, write it and I will be glad to publish it here or better you publish it on your own website. My ultimate aim is try to assist all those who wants to start business get business idea.

Maybe you're too quick to fault my analysis that's why you didn't take time to read and see where I talked about cost equipments.

How much you earn in your business entirely depends on your marketing ability, what I do here is project profit and motivate would be entrepreneur to start something.

Can you argue that some are not making more than N6,000 daily from cybercafe? Profit can never be equal, some earn higher others earn lower.

If you expect me to write every details of your business including the cost of running your business in ongoing basis, then you're being too unfair.

What I write here is just enough for any honest hearted person to build upon towards starting his business.

  15. There is huge limit to what you can do with Smart phone -- those who wants to do serious browsing or who wants to views the web in its natural beauty use Laptop or desktop Tablet is manageable too.

Therefore, smartphone can never replace laptops as far as web is concerned.

I spend almost 12-15 hours online everyday from my home. I think is time for me to get an office and include the cafe thing. For me, even if customers are not enough, I will still be in profit because I have other businesses online.

@Darlin, you are doing a great good great job here. Pls keep it up.

    Thanks and God bless you.

but my problem is on getting a real-able internet provider that the customers can be happy. this business required a quality satisfy by the fast speedy internet.
