Clothing is as old as man himself, the very first clothing that served as a covering was made by the best designer God. Ever since creation man had always requires the services of a tailor for a covering, but sad to say  many Nigeria indigenous tailors have failed to utilize that business opportunity.

Needle and thread over the year had changed life and continues to do seem till date. Lets use a tailor who sews Ankara for instance, he/she can use only needle and thread to produce a style that cost at least N2,00.00 for up and down, this may take just 2 hours to finish.

Imagine, if they tailor gives himself the target to finish up to 4pairs daily that means N8,000.00,multiple it by 5(five) that is N40,000.00 weekly, if  that amount is multiple by 4weeks in a mouth that will sum up to N240,000.00 a month. It is very essential to note that those figures  does not come by simply calculating it, but it as a result of having the right attitude and approach to the job.

Most, tailors view their job as “WORK” thereby carrying it out in  very bad ways, like not keeping to agreement/disappointment, shoddy work. missing fabrics, very poor finishing etc.

Keeping To Agreement:

Many people have stopped patronizing an average Nigeria tailors, because they simply can keep to their “own” words. imagine stepping into a tailor’s shop with your fabrics which you wishes to wear to a function in 3 weeks time.

Immediately, tailor sees you without him/her carefully listen to you the tailor simply ask you to drop the fabric. They shabby measures you just to fulfill  the regular routine, then the may just give an any date that pops up in their head just to get out some advance from you. Keeping to agreement can earn you good reputation, which bring increase in client base and more  too.

a)How you can keep to a promise, it starts at the point a client walks into your shop, listen very carefully and understand client’s choice of design. Having total knowledge of what the customer is expecting from you.

b)Asking they customer when he expects the cloth to be ready? Depending on the customers date, you many wish to accept or not due to your schedule, Remember to set a target and work very hard to achieve such targets.
c)Keep the chosen style and the exact measurement, it is important that you sew the customer’s cloth according to agreed design with the right size.

Avoid Shodddy Work:

Many a times tailor fail to give cloths the needed attention that fabric requires, roughen the fabrics, burning with iron, staining the cloth etc. Handling a fabric with utmost care and attention that is necessary which can neat enough to use after it is sewn . Keeping the fabric in a neat nylon to avoid dust stains. cutting on a neat surface, weaving the inside, iron and folding neatly before and after the desire is completed.

Don’t Miss Materials

If you are careless about your working tools misplacement of a customers material will be among the major challenges will be dealing with.it is natural the things can get missing at times but that not a reason to misplace any material given to us by a customer be it magazine, fabric or measurement.

Making a shelve were finish materials can be and some kind of bags(Ghana must go bags) were unsewn materials can be. mistakenly, a customers fabric get missing it si proper that you replaces it before the customer comes asking for it. what if the fabric it customized or difficult to find? it will be best you call the customers attention to it, express how sorry you are and ready to replace it, if they customer wont mind.

Poor Finishing

A person’s workmanship is defined determined by the quality of job produce.many tailor don’t pay attention to detail. they many come of with great designs but don’t always give the design a neat finishing.it might be something as little as tacking a button, hemming the mouth, sewing with a matching thread, gumming with a hot iron before joining a collar, cuffs etc.THese can make a cloth not to be appealing to a customer.

The service of a tailor is always needed because every day every human need to wear cloths either to attend occasion or just look good. Passion for sewing and wearing good cloth can turn Nigerian’s indigenous tailors into making millons
