      Herbal Cures and Treatment for Gonorrhea in Nigeria

      Gonorrhea is the most prevalent STD in Nigeria. A study carried out by WHO found Lagos to have the highest gonorrhea rate in the world!! With a population that has an average age of about 18 years, this sexually transmitted disease has undeniably rooted itself within the huge number of sexually active and adventurous Nigerians.

      It has been strongly linked with infertility in both sexes due to the effects it has on the reproductive system.

      What is Gonorrhea?

      Gonorrhea is an STD, a sexually transmitted disease, most frequently contacted by individuals who engage in frequent unprotected sex with multiple partners. It is caused by an infection by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhea. It infects parts of the body that are warm and moist such as;

      • The Eyes

      • The female reproductive organs, including the uterus, cervix, vagina, fallopian tubes.

      How does it Spread?

      It may be transmitted by unprotected sex of any form be it;
      Anal
      Oral
      Vaginal
      It can be transmitted from mother to child during parturition (Child birth)

      What are the Risk Factors?

      Anyone who has unprotected sex with new partners is at risk. It does not have to be frequent. Having sexual intercourse of any type with an infected person one time can get you infected.

      There seems to be this belief that only young people can get it. It is untrue. Anyone can get it.

      What are the Symptoms?

      Gonorrhea presents itself in different forms in men and women.

      In Men

      • Painful/burning urination
      • Burning in the throat (Oral sex)
      • Inflamed testicles
      • Swollen glands and lymph nodes in the throat (Oral sex)
      • Colored discharge from the penis (Yellowish or whitish)

      Symptoms can arise as soon as 2 days from infection. Usually within 2 weeks, but it can take longer. In fact some men never develop symptoms.

      In Women

      • Greenish yellow or white colored discharge from the vagina
      • Burning pain during urination
      • Inflamed itchy eyes
      • Bleeding between periods
      • Inflammation of the vulva
      • Burning throat
      • Swollen lymph nodes and glands in the throat
      • Painful intercourse

      If you experience any of these symptoms, promptly visit a doctor’s office and get a diagnosis.

      How can it be Prevented?

      The most effective way to avoid this affliction is simple, do not have sex with people whose status you do not know. Hence, stick with your partner. Others include;

      • Using protection during sexual intercourse
      • Frequent screening to catch an infection early
      • Having your partner getting tested for STD’s

      In addition to these, it is also possible to strengthen your immune system, so that even in the bacterium enters your body, it’ll be fought off. Healthy habits, such as eating more vegetables and fruit, working out, and avoiding unhealthy foods and habits, can help make your body more resistant to such infections.

      How can it be Treated?

      Gonorrhea is usually fairly easy to treat. Doctors usually prescribe an antibiotic, or two in combination. It can be treated by a single antibiotic injection usually taken with a tablet.

      But these days, because of the development of drug resistance by pathogens, the use of antibiotics is being discouraged in cases where it is not necessary.

      Gonorrhea can be treated using herbs and natural alternatives in place of or alongside antibiotics.

      Herbal/ Natural Cure for Gonorrhea

      • Aloe Vera
        Aloe Vera is a good antioxidant. It boosts the immune system and protects the body from pathogens. It is known to have medicinal qualities, one of which is its antibiotic property.
      • Garlic
        Garlic has long been known to possess antibiotic properties, effective against bacteria. You can simply eat garlic, crush and mix with other healthy diet supplements, honey etc or purchase garlic extracts. It is effective in treatment against small staphylococcus infections.
      • Turmeric: Turmeric also has strong antibacterial qualities, it destroys disease-causing bacteria and strengthens the body’s natural immunity.
      • Apple Cider Vinegar
        This is effective because it has both antibiotic and anti-inflammatory qualities.
        Add 1 or two table spoons to a glass of warm water and drink twice daily.
      • Lemon juice
        Drink some lemon juice diluted in a glass of water daily. You can mix it with honey for a better taste.
      • Ginger
        Ginger can be made into a tea using the root. A decoction of ginger with natural honey is a good way to take it. It also has antibiotic properties.
      • Spinach
