Hello madam am kemi, food business is very lucrative and i can assure you of getting customers if you find a good location but it is not just something you venture into like that.

It is a very stressful business and u cannot do it alone there is always a need for extra hands which is the main problem. It is very difficult to get sales girls these days so you have to strategise properly before leaving your job. My mum has a restaurant and the problem is getting extra hands to work.

So i would advice that you make proper preparations for all the things you will be needing before leaving your job. thanks

I will advise you don’t just quit like that. Because your salary as a banker can still help till your restaurant business is fit. There is no doubt about food business in Nigeria. Its a business that will still trend no matter the condition of the state, People must eat.

What i would do if i were you is that, i would get a reliable person who can be in my position for a while as i continue my Banking Job….. The person manage it and you supervise. You get a good location, get some necessary things…… and let the restaurant kick off.

After a while, you can still make more money from the bank for few months…..then you move permanently to your restaurant.

You have a good burning desire about starting your own business. Although resturant can be a very lucrative idea, it is good to first be sure that you have what it takes to run it successfully. I am happy that you have ran your idea through your friends but it is very important that you ask yourself some important questions:

  1. What difference do i intend to make in the resturant industry?
  2. who are my target audience?
  3. What is it that my target audience actually wanted that i can do better?
  4. How best can i serve them.
  5. Who can influence my target audience?

Why am i asking you to do this? Because this is what is missing in other startups that leads to failure.

I will also suggest by the side that despite your banking job, you can start these same business by the side. I will not advise you to open a shop yet cause it will be a blind jump, but try to find three customers and cook for them, maybe you can do that for their party. This will only take you to sacrifise your weekend and will enable you to have a good feedback from real client before you open up.

I hope this is of help to you.
